An herb spiral is a functional way to use space where it is less available on the ground by building up. We used this pattern commonly found in nature to help guide the construction. Herbs and vegetables are planted within the spiral and a stepping stone path with "keyholes" extend into the garden for harvest opportunities. In addition to annual vegetables, there are perennial vegetables which will produce food every year without re-planting! We also incorporated some ornamental perennials that serve important functions as well. Lupines convert nitrogen from the air to a plant available form, and yarrow and coreopsis are pollinator attractors to ensure fruit set!
